Family Law Mediation

Helping Parents Reach Thoughtful, Respectful Solutions Without Court Intervention

At Illinois Mediation Clinic, we understand that family law matters particularly those involving children are emotionally and legally complex. Whether you are addressing parental responsibilities (formerly called custody), parenting time, or child support, mediation offers a more private, efficient, and respectful alternative to litigation.

We provide neutral, structured, and solution-focused mediation to help parents resolve disputes outside of the courtroom. Our mediators do not take sides. Instead, we facilitate open communication and help both parties identify common ground and workable solutions tailored to the unique needs of their family.

What Is Family Law Mediation?

Family law mediation is a voluntary or court-referred process in which a trained, neutral mediator helps parents work through parenting-related issues in a confidential setting. The mediator does not make decisions or provide legal advice but instead guides a productive discussion that can lead to a written agreement.

Mediation is particularly effective for:

Topics Commonly Addressed in Family Mediation

We help parents reach consensus on a wide range of parenting and financial matters, including:

  • Allocation of parental responsibilities (formerly called legal custody)

  • Parenting time (visitation schedules)

  • Child support and extraordinary expenses

  • Holiday and vacation arrangements

  • Communication protocols and dispute resolution clauses

  • Decision-making authority for education, healthcare, and extracurricular activities

  • Co-parenting expectations and conflict prevention strategies

Each family is different. We tailor the process to fit your situation, whether you are beginning your parenting journey or revisiting an existing arrangement that no longer meets your child’s needs.

Court-Ordered Mediation:
Flat Fee Option

This includes time for pre-mediation preparation and a written summary of any agreements reached. Additional fees may apply for extended sessions or more complex issues

A Calmer, More Respectful Path Forward

Litigation often escalates conflict. Mediation helps parents stay focused on their children’s well-being while retaining control over decisions that affect their lives. It is private, cost-effective, and can set the foundation for a healthier long-term co-parenting relationship.
